Back Posture Corrector by Yosoo

I have a habit of slumping. I slump a lot for a ballet teacher. Bad habit. Usually slumping and bad posture is a result of the muscles in the back and abs being weak (more on that later)

How To Create A Secure Password

Yes I know we all do the same thing, we have like 2 passwords that we alternate... one for sites that don't care, and one for sites that require 12 characters, 2 special characters, 5 numbers, and the blood type of your first born child. And it's hard to come up with those.

So let me help you out with the best way to come up with complicated passwords that you can actually remember.

Currently Obsessed With...

So I have like seven diffusers (perks of being a reviewer!) so I have one in my office at work, one in my room, one in the kitchen, etc.

My favorite blend right now is happy and springy and uplifting.

essential oils, oil blends, lavender, ylang ylang, geranium

  • 5 drops Lavender
  • 3 drops Ylang Ylang
  • 2 drops Geranium

You could also double those drops and put them in a roller tube, and fill the rest with your favorite carrier oil for a topical boost of liquid happiness :)

Here are the oil sets I used for this blend! Botanicare's oils smell amazing!

Pioneer XDP-100 Full Review

My i-pod started freezing up, I'm poisonous to phones, and Microsoft stopped making Zune players... so I had to get a new mp3 player. I got mine at Best Buy, but you can get yours on Amazon for half off! Who knows how long that'll last...

****update, sale is over, sorry friends*****

Sara Mor Hair Straighter Brush

I got an opportunity to review a straightening brush by Sara Mor! I was super excited about it and I wanted to share my experience with you.

The brush had excellent packaging and a beautiful box/instruction guide with it. The instructions were clear and easy to read. The brush heated up very quickly, and (as you can see from the video below) straightened my hair quickly and easily. I did use some rose-hip oil as a protector in my hair (I didn't videotape working the oil in).

The brush was easy to use, but I doubt it would work well for super curly or kinky hair. My hair is fairly thin and wavy so it was easy to straighten. The hardest part was the ends, since you had to let go of the ends in order to brush all the way through, and sometimes the brush didn't get the ends right away.

Beer Savers - Surprisingly Effective!

Sometimes you want a beer. So you open a bottle and suddenly something happens; maybe you have to leave the house for some reason, or you're really tired and need a nap. Except you're drinking a really great bottle of craft beer and don't want to throw it out.

Or maybe you're drinking a large bottle and don't want to drink it all at once and have nobody to share it with.

It's wrong to throw away good beer. It's just straight-up wrong.

Crisis averted!

I'll be honest, I didn't think these things would actually work. It seemed too good to be true! Plus the silicone just wasn't that strong. But I gave it a shot anyway.

I opened a beer, drank half of it. and put a beer-saver on it and left the house. Four hours later I came home and took a sip...

Well, okay, I say "new," I mean "Out a few months ago and I just recently got around to blogging about it."

I'm a bad blogger.

But Capitol Records has been gracious enough to give me an extra copy of her newest CD to give away here on my blog! And because I'm a nice person (and I'm sending you stuff anyway) I'm going to include a few little extra goodies in the package!

The Chemist by Stephenie Meyer

Stephenie Meyer is at it again, with a new book. This one is an adult crime thriller type thing, I think...

The Chemist by Stephenie Meyer
Genre: Adult Mystery

I wanted to give her a chance. I wanted to hope that someone this clever and with such backing would have hired a better editor or have had people peer review her work or something. But no, it's the same old same old.

I have 3 major problems with Meyer's book(s). the same problems apply to all of them, not just this one.

1. The concept of the plot is very good, but it's basic and underdeveloped. There could have been so much more mystery behind everything, and it could have surprised and shocked me, but it didn't. I figured it all out very quickly and then rolled my eyes when the main character was shocked by the "plot twist."

2. The writing is atrocious... we're talking bad grammar, bad sentience structure, run-ons, and repeated words constantly. And who the hell writes an adult novel and cuts the sentence off before the expletives? I want the expletives! Don't just tell me that he swore creatively. That's okay if you're writing a teen novel, I get it. But this is sooooo not a YA novel. This is about a scientist who tortures people for the government.

3. The characters were not unique or special. This felt exactly like The Host. Which felt exactly like the Twilight series. So basically, she can only write 3 characters: under-developed female with no personality, super-sweet pushover guy, and super-asshole guy. Awesome. Remind me why you're a best seller?

I'm giving it two stars instead of one because even though it was horrible, I still got about a third of the way through it (which is more than I can say for some other horrible books I've read in the past).

Red Wine Roundup

I'm not a wine expert by any stretch, but I did want to share with you the few favorite Cabernet and Red blends I've found over the past few weeks! If you get a chance, check these out.

These three are specifically put together because they're dark, complex, full of flavor, smooth, and affordable. (Click on each picture for the source).

Music Monday - Galapaghost

I wanted something softer, that would make me think, or that I could just listen to without thinking and enjoy the music without being distracted. I found an artist who made me want to dance, just listen, block it out, and think about it, all at once.

I am slowly turning into a Time Lord

So I saw this necklace and fell in love with it. I thought to myself, "I have to do whatever it takes to get that necklace in my mailbox."

Now... this is quite odd, because this is the kind of person I am.

I have 2 jewelry boxes, about a gazillion pieces of jewelry, and maybe fifty necklaces. Wanna guess how many of them I wear on a regular basis?

Yeah. Zero.

But the thing is, I saw this necklace, with my solar system on it, and needed it like I've never needed another piece of jewelry before (besides my engagement ring. Long story, that. Another day.)

And it is every bit as magical as I knew it would be. Even my cat likes it!!

Red Wine Chocolate Brownies

Last night I needed chocolate. And I have tons of it, but it was all at the office. So I did what any sane self-respecting Millennial does, and went out to get a box of brownie mix and doctor it up.

But I had a problem. The day before I made a DIY hair mask, and I didn't realize I was out of eggs (more on that later). So I had to figure out how to make brownies without eggs.

It worked.

I give you, the fudgiest most incredible brownies ever!

6 Secret Weapons To Keep You Safe

Hi, I'm a woman in the 21st century. I have two weapons on me at any given time, because it only takes someone breaking into your house and trying to rape you once for you to decide to start carrying something to protect yourself.

And with it being January and all you crazy mofos out at the butt-crack of dawn to run and get fit, just remember to be safe, yeah? And yes you could carry a taser or a knife (I always have one of the two with me) but you probably don't want to carry all that crap around with you... how about something more subtle?

So here are 5 weapons that are not obvious that you should always have on you, in case of emergency.

Thanks for visiting! Just so you know, The Life and Lies is an affiliate of several websites, and may collect a fee for your clicks, purchases, and subscriptions. Any item featured or reviewed may have been received free or discounted, nut in no way affects my review. Thanks, and enjoy!

1. A hidden blade on your keys. Everyone knows the "hold the keys between your fingers trick" but an actual blade can also come in handy. This one also comes with a multitool for your wallet.

2. Sharp knitting needles. Nobody suspects them! the Aluminum ones are very sharp and strong, and the plastic ones won't be taken away from you in a security check, especially if you have a project on them. (And yes you can hurt someone with plastic knitting needles. I've done it... I drew blood).

3. A voice and video recorder for your keys. Worried about subtlety recording a conversation or an unwelcome face? Don't pull out your camera phone, just hold your keys.

4. A Pen that could potentially kill your assailant. It has a tip that will break glass. It will definitely puncture skin and muscle if you punch hard enough. Also, nobody is going to suspect a pen.

5. Credit Card Blade.
'nuff said.

6.  Your smart phone. Your smart phone is clever enough to have voice recognition. Program it to send an alert when you say a special word or phrase, like "Snickerdoodle" or "gas mask" or the less secret "Don't touch me."

Good luck and stay safe!!

Welcome to the Hardest Month of the Year

January is the hardest month of the year for me... I've had Christmas break, eaten too much food, and it's cold outside. Everyone is making new year's resolutions and I just want to smack people because we all know that "New year, New you" stuff is garbage (unless you do it right, of course).

But in light of my "Setting Better Goals" article on Thursday, I figured I'd share with you a breakdown of my goals for the month of January. I find it easier/better to set goals for the month rather than the year, since life changes drastically all the time.

So here we go!

1. Work out for 35 minutes during my lunch break on M, TU, W, F, and as long as I want on either Sat or Sun

2. Prepare my meals ahead of time on Sat or Sun, and eat what I pack for lunch instead of going out to eat

3. Wake up at 6:00-6:15 so I can get to work on time, and have quiet time in the morning.

4. Keep my planner with me at all times, and actually use it (my planner has everything; to-do list, schedule, workout plan, meal plan, blog notes, etc)

5. Send out wedding invitations by the end of the month!

Those are my goals for January. What are yours?

Music Monday - 3PillMorning

Today's Music Monday is because I've been desperate for some new rock music, so of course what did I do? I went on Noisetrade and searched for artists who were similar to Halestorm, Shinedown, and Hinder. I found way more than I expected, but this one artist is really making me happy.

Free Music, Rock music, rock, 3Pillmorning,

3 Pill Morning is a hard rock band from Minneapolis founded in 2004. They've had incredible success and just put out a new album entitled Never Look Back. Their first album, Black Tie Love Affair, is available on Noisetrade for free for a limited time!

Listen and sample their music here, but trust me, if you're a fan of rock, it'll be on your ipod in less than 5 minutes.

(photos from 3PM website)

They just released their new album, available on Amazon, Itunes, Google play, and Pledge Music!

From Noisetrade

Forged in the hard rock proving grounds of Minneapolis, MN in 2004, 3 Pill Morning could be described as trial by fire. Simply put, music was never a question for lead vocalist Jeff Stebbins and failure was never an option. While other musicians were moving from project to project and band to band, Stebbins took a different path, consistently growing and evolving 3 Pill Morning into an anthemic rock band no one could deny.

It took the better part of 5 years, over 500 shows in basement bars and the constant ups and downs of any young unsigned band. But nothing would stop the evolution of 3 Pill Morning. The band forged on, hitting the road harder than ever before, solidifying their sound, and cementing their spot as a national touring act sharing the stage with the likes of Hollywood Undead, In This Moment, Theory of a Deadman, Sevendust and Pop Evil. Through 3 Pill Morning’s consistent mile grinding and road warrior focus, the band has built an inspiring fan base with die hard supporters worldwide.

3 Pill Morning’s label debut 'Black Tie Love Affair' on Page2Music/A2Z/eOne pegs all the dials and pulls no punches. The band’s lead single ‘Rain’ immediately raced into the top 100 Active Rock songs, the album hit #62 on the Billboard Heat Seekers chart and their sleek video capturing the underdog story ‘Skin’ has lit up YouTube. All signs are positive that this band’s determination and fan-centric demeanor will keep them on the radar for years to come.
